New Zealand summers bring flies, and lots of them. For New Zealand horses, flies are more than an irritation. Constant fly harassment causes stress, head-shaking, eye irritation, and in some cases contributes to eye infections. The Bug Off Fly Mask is one of the most effective solutions available: a well-designed mask that horses tolerate readily and that actually stays on.
The key difference with the Bug Off is the flexible stays that hold the mask away from the horse’s face. Unlike other masks that can sag onto the eyes and muzzle, the Bug Off Fly Mask maintains its shape giving the horse clear vision and preventing the rubbing that causes many horses to remove or resist a mask.
The ear covers are a standout feature. They stand up independently and are lined with soft material against the back of the ear that absorbs and disperses sweat – critical in the New Zealand summer heat. Many horses that object to ear covers on other masks accept these readily.
A very fine mesh gives structure to the shield while helping prevent even the smallest insects from entering, yet still offering excellent visibility for the horse.
