Best Friend Have-a-Heart Grazing Muzzle — For Horses That Escape Other Muzzles
If your horse is a master escape artist — the kind that removes a standard muzzle within the first ten minutes of turnout — the Best Friend Have-a-Heart Grazing Muzzle was designed specifically for them.
The Have-a-Heart features a distinctive ergonomic heart-shaped base that changes the geometry of the muzzle, making it significantly harder for horses to lever off or dislodge. Combined with breathable mesh construction and a five-point adjustable breakaway halter, it provides a more secure fit than the popular Deluxe model while remaining humane and comfortable for extended wear.
Like all Best Friend grazing muzzles, the Have-a-Heart helps limit pasture intake without restricting water — the small opening allows normal drinking while significantly reducing the volume of grass consumed per hour. For NZ horses turned out on spring and summer pasture, this is the critical balance: your horse can still graze naturally, socialise with the herd, and move freely, but without the overconsumption that contributes to obesity, laminitis, and founder.
Equine vets recommend grazing muzzles as the most practical and humane approach to pasture management for good doers. Stabling or tape fences work, but they isolate your horse from the herd and restrict natural movement. A well-fitted muzzle keeps your horse outdoors, social, and safe.
The padded noseband and lightweight construction help reduce the risk of rubs during long daily wear. The included breakaway buckle means if the muzzle catches on a post or fence rail, it releases safely rather than trapping your horse.
